Creatures and Creativity
Hey my lovelies!!
Today is gonna be such a fun and light hearted column, and think it's about time I went over this topic: creatures and creativity.
When people say, “BUT SUKI! I’M NOT CREATIVE AND I CAN’T DRAW,” I say LIES!
Everyone is creative, even if some may be more than others. If you’re struggling, sometimes the best thing to do is to think of some ways you can combine creatures and people. For example, in my bundle of characters, I have one-eyed owl men/women, a hipster fox who plays keytar, 1920’s inspired spiders, horses with elephant feet, and random sea creatures as circus performers--and that's only brushing the surface. Your imagination can thrive from many things and it's essential to being an artist.
Music can also inspire your imagination. For example, have you ever been listening to music and you get those little thoughts in your head that go along to the song?! THAT’S YOUR IMAGINATION!! For me, I think about future animations I want to create along with the music and it makes me so happy, even the sad and depressing songs. Don't be afraid to let your imagination soar! To be honest, my imagination even scares me sometimes. When I'm in a dark room, I begin to imagine creatures, and it's not the dark I’m afraid of--it's the things that could be in the dark. You could use the dark as a way to make creatures, but only if you REALLY wanna make scary creatures.
Creatures are a hard thing to come up with because many creatures you may think about have been already created. A tip for creating a creature is to take one noun, one verb and one adjective, think about those words closely and put on some music (or as I said, go in the dark) and close your eyes. What thing comes to your mind first? Is it a creature? or possibly a person? Then jot down the idea on a piece of paper to get a concept. The creature will form over time the more and more you draw them and it's the best feeling in the world to see your finished creature. If you can, show your creature to others and see how they react to them, or even have other people help you with the creature designs!
I wanted to say a quick thank you to all of you guys who have been following this column and I love you guys! Without your help or support, I wouldn't be posting! Ask me some questions lovelies, I await ♡
