How to Talk to Artists

Hey everyone!

Another exciting edition of this advice column! Remember, email me your questions atartadvicesuki@gmail.com ! we need your contribution! Keep updated for future changes!

Today is about art in itself and the common misconceptions about it. It seems that people will judge my art off the bat rather than say something kind. If you are someone not interested in art and you see someone working their hardest on their art, please don't make any sly comments. It hurts so badly and can make a person quit drawing for good! Think of art like sports: if you run the fastest and hardest you could ever run and you finish with a time you think is excellent and someone comes up to you and says “you run weird,” how hurtful is that to you? Give someone a compliment on their art and if you truly feel the need to you can say something like “why does ___ look like this?” Don't just say that persons art is bad or weird.

Also, if you think you're a really great artist and you see someone drawing a different way, don't go up to them and tell them what they’re doing wrong! There are many styles of art, some weirder than others and you can't just make a person switch styles and make them draw what YOU want to draw, because they aren’t you! Some enjoy flamboyant colors, others black and white, sometimes people enjoy drawing cartoons (me) while others enjoy a more realism standpoint, THAT'S PERFECTLY OK! ART IS ART!!!

Feel free to express yourself in any way possible because art is all about expressing and interpretation. Even if you're not into drawing you should still support artists and their struggle with finding who they are, the biggest support you could have on an artist is just a small “thats really good” or even a “you're good at this” because it will motivate them more. Keep dreaming, keep drawing, keep expressing, because every art is perfect, even if it's just a stick figure ♡
