Mad Awesum Story 1

Prompt: Martha Stewart makes friends in prison

She was first convicted for insider trading, which she found totally unfair! That was being clever, using knowledge to make a bigger gain! Either way, she knew she couldn’t avoid the slammer now, so she figured she might as well deal with it until she’s released

On her first day, she was very nervous. “What would it be like? What kinds of things will I be forced to do? Are the pillows stuffed with only quality ostrich feathers?” All these questions swarmed through her head on the ride there. “Surely, I’ll be going to some special prison for celebs like me!” She couldn’t have been more wrong.

This was just a normal prison! No special treatment, just some special security! How dare they insult her like this! “It’s okay. I’ll only be here for five months. That’s not even half a year! I’ll be just fine.”

In her first week, she was given all sorts of stares. She tried to talk to some fellow prisoners, but they looked away when she looked back at them, staring at her. She figured they were like this to all new outlaws, a sort of harsh welcome. Just because they’ve been convicted doesn’t give them an excuse to be rude about it!

“What do you mean, this is my room?!? I can’t stay in here! There’s no candles, no windows, no wooden bed frame, not even a privacy curtain to the toilet! How am I supposed to live here?!” She complained to the guard as he escorted her to her room. “This is prison, not the penthouse suite, Sunshine. You’ll be back to your riches in five months. G’night.”

After two weeks, people still avoided her and had shifty eyes in her direction. That’s when Martha decided this wasn’t a greeting. “Wait a minute! Maybe they’re all just shy around me because I’m famous! Well I know how to fix that!” She asked the guard to let her use the computer to design an ad for the other prisonmates.

Want to learn how to decorate? Get tips from the one and only Martha Stewart! Meetings this and every weekend in the food court at meal time!

“Perfect!” She thought to herself as she clicked print.

That Saturday, she eagerly awaited mealtime. She couldn’t stop thinking about spreading her interior design knowledge to her fans! However, when it came time to eat, nobody sat at the table. “Maybe they’re shy to come over if no one else is around. She decides to take matters into her own hands. “Haven’t you ever wondered how to correctly fluff a pillow so it doesn’t have an indent where your head is?” Everyone turns around and stares at her. “Well, if you come over to my interior design meeting, I can tell you how, plus so much more! I won’t even charge you!” She chuckles at her own joke. The security guards didn’t seem to find her whole stunt very funny, so she was told to sit down and let the rest of the inmates eat in peace. At least she got their attention!

The next meeting, at least 30 people were crowded around her table for decorating advice. “Wow! Are you all here to get designing advice from me? Well then, let’s get started. It’s a Good Thing you all came today! These meeting are going to change your lives!” It felt so amazing for her to be able to give quality housekeeping tips to her adoring fans again! She taught them everything she could in an hour, from cleaning blinds to backing up important documents on the computer. She never felt more alive than when she talked about organizing shelves! She only hoped they would leave prison knowing their next home will look fabulous. It’s a Good Thing.

After her home decorating lessons had kicked off, prison life wasn’t so bad for her. She had something to do to keep her mind off the griminess that was her temporary shelter. She even met a few ladies who seemed as respectable as women in prison could be! She might even call them in six-and-a-half years when they get released. Probably not, though. After all, she’d be back in action working on her next television series when she’s released, way too busy to meet up with old fans and friends! These thought kept her going for her duration in prison.

Finally, after five months, it was finally time to leave. Though the experience wasn’t one she would call enjoyable, she had liked spreading her knowledge to others, enlightening the other ladies on how to properly keep house. She was confident and glad that those few lessons would be enough to make the difference in their lives to become more organized, good people. Once she was released, she worked her hardest to get back to her normal schedule. The Great Martha Stewart couldn’t be held down, not even by getting prosecuted! It’s a Good Thing.
