I Will Always Love H.E.R

I remember her like it was yesterday,

Fell in love in the second grade, when I was listening to her

I heard the rhyme, I Heard Every Rhyme,

At the time I didn’t understand, but I can tell you

It felt right. She was born at the end of the Gold School

And rocked the sensation that hit the nation,

The new style had intrigued me, and she was the one who had it.

I never looked at beauty because her mind was the one who attracted me.

At the time I never knew, I was looking at Common’s child

She told me what I can be in “I Can”, she taught me

That the “Heart Of The City” has no love, and 2Pac will be alive

“Until the End of Time” and she was the one who “Rocked My World.”

In 05, I was afraid that she was becoming a “Gold Digger” but I

“Remembered the Name”, got back to “Hustler’s Ambition.”

In the year of the Arab Spring, She became well rounded, doing her own thing.

She was dropping the throwback jersey and bringing up the Gucci.

I was okay with that because I didn’t mind it. I liked her style. I had to go to school,

And when she was done, we would Hear Every Rhymes.

She would ask, are you seeing anyone, I said no.

She said she “Loved The Way You Lied” I told her I know.

We were “Right Above It” and we were “Not Afraid” to show our affection.

A couple of months later, I was afraid that she was talking about

the “Beamer, Benz, or Bentley” and I couldn’t stand it and moved on.

She was crying, I said we “Can’t Be Friends” and it hurt me.

I still listened to her voice when I walked home. I wished I hadn’t but had to.

I messed with other girls. This one had a more country feel, she had more smooth,

Rock style, another one had more crazy, hard classic lifestyle, that wasn’t for me,

This one just loved to party, raved all day and all night, and had fun, but I couldn’t hang,

I tried to forget, but couldn’t since she was everywhere.

I thought she was “My Last” and accepted that fact.

When I was lost I listened to H.E.R mother, the original, two years later,

She told me everything about H.E.R, how she was following the people,

How she is still keeping it real, and she was right.

It took me three whole years to Hear her Every Rhyme, I thought she was going to kill me,

I saw her in the halls, if “These Walls” can talk then they would say awkward.

She asked me one question, are you “Alright” I said of course not.

We ran to each other and embraced, both crying, saying how much we love each other.

She said if I would leave H.E.R again I said of course not I am “King Kunta.”

If you have a woman then hold her close, this is a story of a love that I lost

And got back. If you don’t know know then look up Hear Every Rhyme,

Cause what I will always love is Hip-Hop
