Do Celestial Objects Pick Sides?
I’ve known the sun for a while now
(she’s a great friend)
But I can’t help but wonder,
Does she know?
Does she know she provides
Beautiful afternoons for some
and
Blistering conditions for others?
Surely she must have seen the red pain during harvest in the eyes of those immigrants.
And what about the moon?
He’s very mysterious, yes
(He’s always wearing black)
But I can’t help but wonder,
Does he know?
Does he know he provides
A restful slumber for some
and
Life threatening scenarios for others?
Surely he must have heard the humming of young women while they walk down that alley alone.
And oh those stars!
They’re funny fickle things
(they’re here one second and gone the next)
But I can’t help but wonder,
Do they know?
Do they know they provide
Assuring navigation for some
and
Fiery fields for others?
Surely they must have touched the burning hole in the ground that destroyed that family’s home.
And what about us?
Us feeble, clumsy creatures
(We sin and forget in the blink of an eye)
But I can’t help but wonder,
Do we know?
Do we know that we provide
A plethora of opportunity for some
and
A beating into mud for others?
Surely we must have
Tried
Begged
Thirsted
Fought
Screamed
For equality and acceptance after the
Turmoil
and
Destruction
Our forefathers created.
Or
Maybe
The stardust and celestial atoms in our bodies are taking over
and
Ruining our ability to see our faults.
