Prompt: Tell a famous story from the perspective of someone vaguely related to the protagonist.
Requested By: Ms. Herman
Where has my precious girl run off to? That temper of hers has gotten the best of her, and because of what I did to her, she’s gone, she may not even come back. My sweet, sweet girl, alone in the world. I can’t let that happen!
“Henry! Oh, please Henry! We have to find Dorothy! She’s run off!”
“This is in no way your fault, Em. It’s that Gulch woman. What a witch she is.”
“Yes, she is wretched, but we let her take away Toto! If we had just told her to leave, none of this would have happened!” Tears started to well in my eyes.
“There wasn’t much we could do, dear. Either she took Toto or we’d lose the farm. Either way, enough dilly-dallying! We have to find her!” We ran out of the house to catch up to her, but by that time, she was out of sight.
“Where are you two off to?” Hank asked.
“Didn’t you see her? Dorothy just ran off! We have to find her!” I exasperatedly responded.
“Oh, that’s terrible, but you just can’t go after her! There’s a twister coming!” After he said this, we heard a loud HYAHHH! from Zeke and the clopping of horses cantering away from our farm.
“But what about Dorothy?”
“I’m sorry. There’s nothing we can do. There’s no point in risking all our lives. After all, she could be somewhere safe out there. by now. We have to head inside the cellar now.”
I was going mad. “But Dorothy’s out there! We have to find her!”
I tried to run off, but Henry held me back. I kicked and screamed, “Unhand me! I have to find her!” With the help of Hank, Henry pulled me into the shelter, followed by Zeke and Hickory. I protested and squealed and shook with everything I had, but it was no use. With the thud of the cellar door, my precious niece had been lost.
