Boys Are Cool, But Girls Are Important Too
Don’t forget about the girls.
The mothers, daughters, and sisters.
The future leaders, educators and strong individuals
with voices of their own.
The girls whose scarves and headwraps attract commotion
and bigotry.
The girls whose kinks and coils provoke their colleagues,
being told, “Your hair is too big.”
The girls who are “too masculine”, receiving looks full of
disgust and resentment.
The girls whose exposed shoulders and knees create
more conversations than the important conflicts
at hand.
The girls who grew up too fast, not even having a taste of childhood.
The girls who are branded with the “angry black girl” narrative,
their voices being squashed in the process.
The girls who are tired and just want to have peace.
Don’t forget about the girls.
